In the town of Henderson, Texas, a group of 46 animals were rescued in June, including a 5-year-old girl named Bella. The animals belonged to a woman who was the supposed “owner” of 28 dogs, 11 cats, six puppies, and a turtle. However, it was clear that she had neglected her responsibilities towards them as they were found without sufficient food, water, or shelter by the Texas SPCA rescue team.
One individual among the group is Bella; a young lady who understands the importance of protecting her beloved dogs, and is ready to go above and beyond to ensure their safety. She went as far as digging a hole in the ground to keep them secure and took great care of them.
It is unfortunate that some individuals did not receive assistance on time, as evidenced by the discovery of lifeless bodies of numerous animals within the vicinity. Meanwhile, there are still those who are alive but confined in cages, enduring the weight of heavy chains around their necks. It is indeed a heartbreaking situation as their overall health remains in dire condition.
The dogs in their care are experiencing a range of health issues like shedding fur, overgrown nails and eye infections. As per the SPCA Texas communications specialist, Kristen Kerr, heartworms are a common problem among most of these dogs. Additionally, these poor creatures also suffer emotionally as they are not used to human interaction. Building trust with these animals has been a challenging but rewarding task for both the staff and volunteers at the organization.
Bella and her six children had a profound impact on everyone they met. Kristen shared how the only shelter they had was under the shade of a tree, and while they could find food, the water was contaminated with dirt. Despite the difficult situation, Bella’s partner did everything he could to keep their family safe, including digging a hole next to them to provide additional protection.
Perhaps it was her motherly intuition that kept her and her two little ones out of harm’s way. The rescue crew was deeply moved by his courageous actions, and thankfully they were able to locate her and the rest of the animals in time to give them a fighting chance. They are now receiving the love and attention they deserve in various shelters and adoption centers.
Bella took care of her kids until they were mature enough to be adopted, and eventually, they all found new homes. Interestingly, Bella herself also got adopted. Kristen shared that what moved her the most was observing how initially shy pets slowly gained trust and became open to human interaction.
Bella has finally found her new home, giving her the opportunity to leave the traumatic past behind. She, along with other animals, was held captive by a cruel person in inhumane conditions.
